In my last post, I mentioned hypnosis is a completely natural, relaxed state of awareness you go into and out of all day long. So you might be wondering--what the heck? I'm in hypnosis every day?
In fact, you go into this state before drifting off to sleep, and when you are first waking up in the morning without an alarm clock.
It's also a state you experience when you're driving down the road and all of a sudden reach your destination--unaware of precisely how you got there (this is referred to as highway hypnosis).
Other times, you've experienced this when watching TV, daydreaming, computer gaming, or when you are focused intensely on reading your favorite novel. You are immersed, not fully aware of your body or your thoughts in those moments. However, you are certainly not asleep.
Essentially it's just a different form of awareness. One that can be leveraged for truly transformational change.
Oh, and by the way, despite the myth promoted by that hilarious movie Office Space, you can't become “stuck” in hypnosis. You are always in control, and if the hypnotist says or does anything that goes against your own moral or ethical code, you easily reject it.
Many of my clients find deep relaxation in our sessions, feeling light and pleasant afterwards. It can be a wonderful feeling and often is more relaxing and satisfying than sleep. In fact, my 50-minute stress-buster hypno session can feel as satisfying as several hours of deep sleep!
